Information to bear in mind
Don't forget that the refuge is located at an altitude of 3613 m, on a rocky promontory surrounded by ice and emptiness...
The Cosmiques refuge is, of course, close to the Aiguille du Midi, but it is in reality isolated: the food goes up by helicopter and the resources are rare there. Remember to recharge your laptops before going up, the use of Wifi is reserved for guards for reservations, the bins go back down in your bag...
Water is very scarce at this altitude and is not drinkable: you will not be able to fill your water bottle or take a shower. Be sparing when brushing your teeth.
Life in a shelter is also a life in community, please respect the silence in the dormitories and in the corridors whatever the time of night or day and respect meal and wake-up times.
Boxes are available to store your mountain equipment. Note that some people may have bad intentions. It's up to you to organize yourself to protect your belongings. The refuge team declines all responsibility in the event of loss or theft of your mountain equipment.
The altitude can have an impact on your metabolism, do not hesitate to get advice from your doctor before climbing and do not wait until the last moment to come and see the guards if, on site, you do not feel well.
The refuge is neither a restaurant nor a hotel… the refuge experience is incredible if you take the time to appreciate what is precious up there: the landscape, a warm place ready to welcome you and protect you from storms and icy nights, a place to meet, a place to eat, to gain strength before his ascent the next day. Remember that operating a building in such a hostile environment is no small feat! Thank you for appreciating the efforts made by the team of caretakers living up there 8 months a year 🙂
We look forward to meeting you and we wish you a very good stay at the refuge !
