Charpoua refuge

Presentation

Nestled in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif, the Charpoua refuge is situated at an altitude of 2841 meters. At the foot of the Drus mountains, the hut is an integral part of the Chamonix valley's heritage and mountaineering history. Since its beginnings, the hut has been the silent witness to the exploits of the most daring mountaineers, becoming the scene of legends engraved in rock and memory.

Situated on the central promontory of the Charpoua cirque, on the right bank of the Mer de Glace, the refuge is surrounded by mythical peaks, making it the ideal starting point for a variety of itineraries.

From the Flammes de Pierres to the Drus, from the Aiguille Sans Nom to the Aiguille Verte, right up to the Ecclésiastiques range, the Charpoua basin offers a wide choice of routes. It can also be a destination for novice mountaineers wishing to discover high-mountain refuges and spend a night in this privileged location.

Departure to the refuge is from the Mer de Glace basin, by stepping onto the glacier at Montenvers, or from one of the refuges located in this basin.
The ascent to the Charpoua is a high-mountain challenge that demands special attention.
The paths are technical, between glaciers and moraines, and you need to be afraid of heights, as you'll have to climb ladders.

These elements add to the complexity of the climb, requiring a certain amount of mountaineering experience. Anchor points are available at the ladders, enabling climbers to ensure their own safety.
